چکیده

Interest in urinary 8i-glucuronidase has recently developed from the work of Boyland, Wallace, and Williams (1955), who found high levels of this enzyme in the urine of patients with carcinoma of the bladder. The method used by these authors was modified from that of Talalay, Fishman, and Huggins (1946). After a careful study of the following points, however, it was found necessary to reinvestigate and modify this method.

A note on the determination of serum beta-glucuronidase activity.

A modification of the method of Fishman, Springer, and Brunetti (1948) for determining serum beta-glucuronidase activity is described. Normal values are presented and some of the factors which might influence the serum enzyme determination have been investigated.

Failure of urinary beta-glucuronidase activity to localize the site of urinary tract infection.

The differentiation of renal from bladder bacteriuria is difficult on clinical grounds alone. To evaluate the correlation between site of infection and urinary beta-glucuronidase activity, 46 patients with well documented recurrent bacteriuria were studied by bilateral ureteral catheterization. Urinary beta-glucuronidase activity was also determined in 46 control subjects. In general, asymptoma...

Sensitive method for the quantification of beta-glucuronidase activity in human urine using capillary electrophoresis with fluorescence detection.

Capillary electrophoresis (CE) with fluorescence detection was used to determine the concentration of 4-methylumbelliferone liberated from 4-methylumbelliferyl-beta-D-glucuronide by beta-glucuronidase. Enzyme substrate saturation kinetics were studied in buffer and the pH range for the enzyme reaction was optimized. A linear relationship of initial enzyme reaction velocity as a function of peak...

Partial Least Square and Parallel Factor Analysis Methods Applied for Spectrophotometric Determination of Cefixime in Pharmaceutical Formulations and Biological Fluid

In this study, the direct determination of cefixime as an anti-bacterial agent, in pharmaceutical formulations, urine and human blood plasma was conducted based on spectrophotometric measurements using parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) and partial least squares (PLS). The calibration set was composed of fourteen solutions in the range of 0.50- 9.00 µg mL-1. PLS models were calculated at each p...
